Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 8, 2026

OmniSpeedReader is built to do one thing — help you read faster — without watching you do it. The short version: we don’t collect, store, sell, or transmit your personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no trackers, and no servers logging what you read.

What runs where

Both the website and the Chrome extension do all of their work locally in your browser. When you speed-read an article, a PDF, a page, or selected text, that content is processed on your own device and is never uploaded to us or anyone else.

What we store (on your device only)

Your preferences (reading speed, mode, typeface, theme), your saved library and reading history, and your resume position are kept in your browser’s local storage (and, for the extension, Chrome’s storage.sync for your settings). This data lives on your device — and syncs across your own Chrome profile if you’re signed in to Chrome. You can clear it any time from within the app or your browser settings. We never receive a copy.

The article-import feature

When you paste a URL on the website to import an article, our edge function fetches that public page and extracts its readable text so it can be streamed to you. The URL is used only to retrieve the article for that request; it is not stored, logged to a profile, or associated with any identity. The Chrome extension reads page content directly in your browser and does not send URLs to us at all.

Chrome extension permissions

The extension requests the minimum permissions it needs, and uses each only for its stated purpose:
  • activeTab — read the current tab’s text only when you invoke the reader.
  • scripting — inject the reading overlay on demand.
  • contextMenus — provide the right-click “Speed-read” menu items.
  • storage — remember your reading preferences.

No third parties

We don’t use third-party analytics, advertising, or data brokers. We don’t share data with anyone because we don’t collect it in the first place.

Children

OmniSpeedReader is a general-audience reading tool and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated date above will change with it. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
